You've all heard about software piracy in the past but did you know that piracy in the model and miniatures industry is a big problem as well.

It does not take a lot of imagination to understand how someone could buy one of our models and using materials available at many arts and crafts stores, make a mold of it and start casting copies.

While this is very easy to do, it is illegal and punishable under civil and criminal law. There are many laws and statutes that are violated when you copy someone else's work and most of them fall under intellectual property and copyright violations.

Some people think that if you make a mold of someone's model and cast up a bunch of models for your own personal use that you are exempt from the copyright laws ... this is 100% false. The crime occurs when you make the mold. Further criminal and civil violations occur if/when you sell the items that you make, but not selling the models does not eliminate the initial crime of making the mold in the first place.

At GameCraft Miniatures we have made a very large investment in our manufacturing facility, materials, design software, machinery and tools that allow us to produce the finest miniatures you can buy. We have also invested huge amounts of time producing these models for you. We need to protect that investment.

Fortunately technology comes to our rescue here. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags have become so small and so cheap (pennies each) that we can insert a tag into every casting that we manufacture. So, deep inside every resin and plaster casting that we sell is a very tiny RFID tag that contains our company information as well as some other "secret" codes that we can read with a hand held RFID reader.

We can carry our RFID tag reader with us to hobby shops and game conventions and verify, with 100% reliability, the authenticity of our products.

These measures are not being taken to hunt down and punish pirates but rather to protect what we are building here. If you like our products and appreciate the work we put into producing them, please purchase them when you can and do not copy them.
